Canine coronavirus is virus of the family coronavirus that caused a highly contagious intestinal disease worldwide in dogs.It was discoverd in 1971 in GErmany during an outbreak in sentry dogs.

The virus ivades and replicartes in the villi of the samll intestine.Intestinal disease may be related to virus-induced apatosis (programmed cell death) of cell of the epithelial mucosa of the small intestine.Canine coronavirus was originally thought to cause serious gastrointestinal disease,but noe most cases are considered to be very mild or without syptoms.A more serious complication of cannie coronavirus occurs when the dogs is also infected with canine parvovirus. Coronavirus infection of the intestinal villi mkares the cells more susceptible to parvovirus infection.Thise causes a much more severe diease than either virus can separetaly. However,fatal intestinal disease associated with cannie coronavirus is still occasinally reportes This may be related to the high mutation ratye of RNA positive stranded viruses,of which canine coronavirus is one.
* Symptoms,diagosis,traetment, and control
THe incubation period is one to three days.The disease is highly contagious and is spread is highly contagious and is spred through the feces of infected dogs,who usually shed the virus for six to nine days, but sometimes for six months followinginfection .Symptoms include diarrhea, vomating, and anorexia.Diagosis is through detection of virus particles in the feces.Treament usually only requires medication for diarrhea,but more severely affeceted dogs may require intraveous fluids for dehydration. fatalities are rare.The virus is dedtroyed by most available disinfectantas.There is a vaccine available ( ATCvet code QI07AD11(WHO), and it is usually given to pupies to who are more susceptible to cannie coronavirus, and to dogs that have a high risk of exposere, sich as show dogs.
*Canine respiratory coronavirus
Recently, a second type of canine coronavirus (Guop 2) has beeen shows to cause respiratory sisease in dogs. Known as acnine respiratory coronavirus (CRCoV) and foundto ne similar to strain OC43 of bovine and human coronaviruses , it was first isolate in the United Kingdom and in Japan. A serological study in 2006 has shown antibodies to CRCoV to be present in dogs in CANADA and the UNITED STATES. Howevwer. a retrospective study in Saskatchewan found that CRCoV may have been present there as far back as 1996.
